Q1. What is the Living Choices Waiver?

A Medicaid program that helps Arkansas seniors live in assisted living communities instead of nursing homes by covering personal care, meals, and daily support.

Q4. Who can submit a comment?

Anyone! Residents, family members, staff, vendors or concerned citizens.

Q2. Why is this decision harmful?

Because the reimbursement rate no longer covers the real cost of care. This forces providers to absorb losses, cut programs, or limit access for Medicaid residents.

Q3. How was the $132.33 cost calculated?

Through DHS's own consultant analysis of verified provider cost reports.

Q6. What should I say?

Subject: Support Fair Funding for Arkansas Seniors

Dear DHS and State Leaders,

I am writing to urge you to reconsider the decision to freeze rates for the Living Choices Assisted Living Waiver. The current rate of $86.73 per day does not reflect the true cost of care ($132.33 per day) and threatens the sustainability of community-based living options for Arkansas seniors.

Please support a rate increase that ensures providers can retain staff, maintain quality care, and keep our seniors safe at home.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
